SW OPEN 2005 & American
Legion #73:
("Upcoming Events & Tournament Results" - Click Item
of Interest for Details)
For those of
you that could not make it to the Del City 4th of July tournament,
you missed a good time.
Attendance was down some, but this was expected. A lot of
players weren't for sure the American Legion was
going to host this event. Losing the Board Talk has impacted a
lot of Shuffleboard Events because the news
isn't always available to everyone. There are several people
working in different ways to try and resolve
this problem. Norm, the new manager, who was elected to take
over for Don, wants everyone to know that this
was just the beginning. All their tournaments will be on-going
as usual. There will be a Oklahoma State
Championship Tournament in January 2006 too.
Norm and Debbie and other Legion Members worked long hours to get
the Legion ready for all the events.
They painted, replaced carpet, and installed a new bar that Don had
built before he passed away. We tried something new by giving a
jacket for the lst place winners, instead of trophies. Other
players, who placed, were given polo shirts.
BILL
MELTON & DARROL NELSON (PRO SINGLES PLAYOFF SUMMARY)
Bill Melton
and Darrol Nelson went at it in the Pro Singles. Darrol put Bill
Melton in the losers bracket. Bill won his way through the losers
bracket to get a rematch with Darrol. Bill won the first 2 of
3. But, it wasn't meant to be... Darrol won the next
match and took 1st place. It was awesome to watch the 2 best
players play so hard.
JIM
PAYNE BRINGS IN NEW NEBRASKA PLAYERS
Jim Payne
showed up with several new players from Nebraska. Whatever
they are doing to get these kids
playing, is really working well. They love the game and they
come ready to play and ready to win. He
assured us that next year he will have even more coming.
NOTE:
Anyone looking for a good three or four for a tournament needs to
contact Jim Payne!
It would be interesting to see a challenge from Jim to other states,
to see who can show up with the
most new players next year. I'm pretty sure Nebraska would
win.
GLAD
TO SEE RETURNING PLAYERS
We were glad to see some of theplayers that had been missing from the Del City Tournament,
return this
year. Lilly and Harvey Kidd, Brenda Moore, David and Debbie
Sexton, and Jack Davis, just to mention a few.
FUNDRAISER: SPECIAL OLYMPICS FOR "Special
Kids" A GREAT SUCCESS
Harvey Kidd,
John McDermott, and Lorraine Olson were major contributors to the
Special Olympics this year.
They kept on challenging the other players each day. It was
the best year we have had so far. Players
contributed $2300 for the Special Kids.

A special
